Doris Ann Ponzer of Lake Spring, Missouri passed away Saturday, July 24, 2010 at her home after a very courageous battle with breast cancer . She was 77. Doris was born May 27, 1933 in Bloodland, Missouri to the late Gaines and Mabel (Hudgens) Pugh.
Doris was united in marriage to George Rolland Ponzer on November 28,1951 and to this union seven children were born. They had celebrated 58 years of marriage in November. Doris and George loved the farm life. She enjoyed horseback riding, working cattle, working the garden and sharing the bounty of her labor with family and friends. Doris loved spending time with family and friends especially when it came to the grandchildren. Doris was a member of the First Baptist Church of Rolla, she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend and will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her. Doris is survived by her loving husband George, of the home; children, Rolland Ponzer and wife Sandy, of Blue Springs, MO; Gregory Ponzer, of Bellingham, WA; Melvin Ponzer and wife Rhoda, of Harrisburg, MO; Laura Ponzer, of Rolla, MO; David Ponzer, of Salem, MO; Martha French and husband Kenneth, of Lake Spring, MO; Frank Ponzer and wife Sheryl, of Rolla, MO; brother, Jim Pugh, of Rolla, MO; sister, Betty Sheerer, of Rolla, MO; uncle, Kenneth Hudgens, of Rolla, MO; 19 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Gaines and Mabel Pugh; sister, Erma Canfield; brother-in-law, Gilbert Canfield.
Funeral service will be Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at 5 PM in the Rolla Chapel of the James & Gahr Mortuary with Pastor Bob Johnston officiating. Interment will follow at the Lake Springs Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be Tuesday, July 27, 2010 from 3 PM until time of service. The family requests memorials to The Susan G Komen for the Cure, or to the Phelps County Hospice Program, cards are available at all James & Gahr locations.
