Kay L. Sands of Rolla, Missouri passed away Saturday, June 28, 2014 at the Golden Living Center in St. James, Missouri at the age of 69. Kay was born in Rolla, Missouri on January 22, 1945 to the late Kenness and Emma (Huskey) Brown.
Raising four children Kay wanted to be able to set her own hours so she worked as a house keeper in private homes in and around the Rolla community. After deciding she could no longer live on her own she moved to the Golden Living Center in St. James where she offered up her services as the designated "Welcome Committee" and official "Rounds Committee" going in and checking on everyone first thing every morning, having been a "caretaker" most all of her life she really enjoyed making sure everyone was taken care of. Kay enjoyed crafts, going to the casino, and time spent with family and friends. The St. Louis Cardinals have lost their #1 fan, when they were on TV you could always find Kay cheering for them, especially Matt Holiday and Yadier Molina, they were her favorites. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend and will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her.
Survivors include her children, Robert Sands, of Rolla, MO, Kenny Sands and wife Katie, of Rolla, MO, Walter Sands and wife Tina, of Rolla, MO, and Scherilda Mantore and husband Clinton, of Rolla, MO; grandchildren, Christina Parks, Brian Sands, Justina and Devon Skaggs ,Brandon Sands, Cassey Sands, Travis Ross Jr., Destiny Ross, Meghan Sands, Isaac Ross,; great-grandchildren, Audrey Sands, Ashely Parks, Maci Skaggs, Lucus Skaggs, Paris Ross, Arley Skaggs, and Ellie Sands; brothers, James Brown and wife Doris, of Rolla, MO, Jerry brown, of FL, Terry Brown, of St. Louis, MO, and Dennis Brown and wife Karen, of Rolla, MO; a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.
