Betty Lou Mason, of New Braunfels, Texas passed away on Friday, October 4, 2019 at the Colonial Manor Care Center at the age of 88. Betty Lou was born in Quaker, Missouri on April 5, 1931 to William "Corbet" and Ethel (Boyer) Mason. Betty Lou was a true artist with many talents. Not only did she have a beautiful voice, she was a songwriter and self-taught musician playing the guitar, keyboard, harmonica, and tambourine. It was always her dream to be a country music performer, but this dream did not come to be since she always put her family first. However, she did not let this discourage her. She shared her musical gifts playing for her family, friends, during church services, and recitals in the community, she even recorded songs with her sister. Beyond her musical capabilities, Betty Lou also shared her artistic capabilities by re-purposing common items found in thrift shops and garage sales, transforming them into works of art, utilizing her skills as a seamstress, painter, and woodworker. She could see beauty in everything around her. Betty Lou was a devoted mother who raised four children who were her pride and joy. She enjoyed traveling across country to stay close to her family. Her love and compassion were beyond measure, always willing to share what she had with everyone. She exuded beauty and grace as a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, and will be greatly missed and loved by all. Betty Lou Mason is survived by her children, Roger Dale Cavender and partner, Arleen Herbert, of Houston, TX, and Belinda Bezpalko and husband Jerry, of Floresville, TX; grandchildren, Michelle Vega (Don), Kimberly Jones (Mike), Johnnie-Belinda Guerrero (John), Stephanie Cavender-Pax (Marcus), and Michael R. Cavender JR; great-grandchildren, Justin Carter, Brody Vega, Jarrett Vega, Annalee Dooley, Robert Dooley, and Daniel Guerrero; a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. In addition to her parents Corbet and Ethel Mason, Betty was preceded in death by 9 siblings, and her son, Michael Ray Cavender, and daughter Melinda Fay Cavender. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2019 at 1:00PM at the Salem Chapel of the James & Gahr Mortuary with Lindell Decker officiating. Internment will be in the Antioch Cemetery in Potosi, Missouri. A visitation for family and friends will be held at the Chapel on Friday, October 11, 2019 from 6-8PM.
