Emily Mae Swiney
March 5, 1920 - May 2, 2022
On March 6, 1920, Emily Swiney was born on a small farm in Hardage, MO, to Laura Ales and Ira Thompson. It was there on that farm she developed her deep roots for family, friends, and faith, alongside her siblings Karl and Joy. She graduated from the University of Rolla with a degree in education, and spent her early years as a teacher in a one-room school house. She married her childhood sweetheart, Edward Swiney, and moved to St. Louis, MO, where they raised their family. Her gentle strength guided the many generations, and instilled in them her passion for hard work and education. She is preceded in death by her husband Ed, and her daughter Kay. Her memory and spirit live on through her son Edward Swiney, Jr. (m. Donna), their children Shane Swiney and Shannan (m. Chris) Kellogg, and their grandchildren Jack, Ayden, Mae and Lawton; her daughter Sue Lombardo and her children Angie (m. Andy) Farrell, Laura (m. Jim) Lally, and Tom (m. Loren) Lombardo, her grandchildren Hannah, Nick, Luke, Annie, Joey, Emily, Ava, Thomas and Michael, and great-grandchild, Bella. As her beloved children and grandchildren, we will miss her infamous pies and cookies, her stories about life on the farm, and the life lessons she bestowed on each one of us. But most of all, we will just miss her presence, and the twinkle in her eye when you knew you made her proud.
