Floyd Ragan
January 1, 1930 - August 21, 2019
Floyd Ragan of Fulton, Missouri, formerly of Salem, Missouri passed away on August 21, 2019 at the age of 89. He was born on January 1, 1930 in Hobson Heights, Missouri to John and Amy (Sellers) Ragan. Floyd proudly served his Country in the United States Army. He married Maxine (Laubach) on November 10, 1957. They enjoyed many happy years together and was blessed with two children. Floyd was a member of Second Baptist Church. He grew up with his 6 other siblings on a farm where there were always chores to do but fun to be had. Play-time mostly consisted of hand-made items like slingshots, stilts made from tree limbs, catching fireflies and putting them in a jar, riding on the cows since we didn't have horses, swinging from grape vines, until they broke, and once in a while going to town for groceries. When it was baseball season, his brothers said the radio was on so loud you could have heard every play a mile away but he never missed a game. He was a very good gardener and grew and gave away a lot of fresh vegetables. His garden was over at his mother-in-laws, Gertie Laubach, who called him one morning to ask if he intended to leave the water on all night for the garden because her back yard was flooded - oops! He lost his cell phone and looked everywhere in and out of the house trying to locate it, but after a couple of weeks, gave up, went to the store and got another one. A couple of weeks later, his cat, Katrina, needed her bowl of dry cat food filled back up - and surprise, surprise, out of the bag comes his original cell phone. He loved to pick blackberries so Maxine would have them to make her famous blackberry cobbler. He would put on long pants, a long sleeve shirt, and always wore his pith-helmet which made him look like he was going off into the jungle. He worked for a time at the feed mill at the Salem MFA - where he noticed a beautiful young lady, Maxine, who also worked there in the office. They dated and then married after he came back from serving in the Army. He worked in the mines for several years sorting and grading lead samples. Floyd was a very cheerful, giving and loving person who would go out of his way to help anyone. He loved people and especially loved working at the Friday night music events at City Hall. Floyd passed away on August 21st, his mother's birthday. This reminds his family here who mourns his passing that his family in Heaven is rejoicing at his arrival. Floyd is survived by his loving daughter Karen Wicker and husband Keith of Williamsburg,MO, brothers, Frank Ragan of Rolla, MO and David Lee Ragan of St. Louis, MO; sisters, Peggy Sue Hughes and husband Harold of Rolla, MO and Betty Chaney of Rolla, MO; grandchildren, Dakota Keith Wicker and Hope Marie Wicker; great-grandchildren, Alivia, Desirea and Kennedy.
