Josephine Dewandel

October 21, 1928 - January 21, 2022

Josephine (Mayer) Dewandel of Rolla, Missouri passed away Friday, January 21, 2022, at the age of 93. She was born in Illertissen, Germany on October 21, 1928, to the late Johann and Anna (Klaiber) Mayer. Josephine was raised in Germany and worked at the PX on base, where she met the love of her life, John F. Dewandel; they were married on October 24, 1953, and shared almost forty-two years together before his death on June 08, 1995. Josephine was a friend to all and never met a stranger, she would strike up a conversation with anyone. She was employed by Dierbergs and was a member of the Wholesale Workers Union in St. Louis for over twenty years, she worked until she was eighty years old. She enjoyed travelling and was never afraid to try new things; her first attempt at water skiing was when she was in her fifty's. She was a loving wife and mother who will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her. In addition to her parents and husband, Josephine was preceded in death by her sister, Eleonore Klaiber. Josephine is survived by her loving daughter, Lisa (Chris) Clinton, of Rolla, Missouri; a host of nieces, nephews extended family and friends. A funeral mass for Josephine Dewandel will be held at 11:00AM on Friday, January 28, 2022, at the St. Patrick Catholic Church, Rolla, Missouri with Father Greg Meystrik officiating. Interment will be at the Memorial Park Cemetery, St. Louis, Missouri. A visitation for family and friends will be held prior to the service on Friday, January 28, 2022, from 10:00AM until service time at 11:00AM, also at the St. Patrick Catholic Church, Rolla, Missouri. Memorials are suggested to the St. Patrick Catholic Church or a charity of donors choice. Cards are available at all James and Gahr Mortuary locations.
