Larry M. Morrison Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Larry Merl Morrison of Salem, Missouri passed away Thursday, July 28, 2022, in Salem surrounded by family at the age of 79. Larry was born on July 18, 1943, to the late Merl and Frieda (Frank) Morrison. He was born in Salem and grew up on the Morrison farm. Larry proudly served his Country in the Army National Guard and served faithfully until he retired. He received recognition as a “Sharpshooter” with the H-14 Rifle during his time in the service. He worked for Akers Ferry Canoe Rental for over 20 years and ran Jason’s Place Campground during that time. Larry enjoyed the outdoors, genealogy, researching the family’s ancestry, and bragging about six generations growing up on the family farm. He loved sitting in the fields for hours talking and visiting with the cattle and drinking his Stag beer. Larry was a lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles club and a longtime member of the Missouri Cattlemen’s Association where he held the position of Secretary. He was part of the United States Jaycees, which provided him with the leadership and civic organization skills he used every day. He enjoyed being a leader of the Boy Scouts of America in Salem for several years helping to brighten the minds of all those who encountered him. Larry was a people person, good listener, and the “go-to” guy for almost anything you needed. He was happy to give you words of wisdom, a helping hand, or help in subtle ways that nobody even knew about. Larry was very humble and did not want any praise for the help he provided. He was and always will be a loving and devoted father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He touched so many lives during his time with us and he will be greatly missed. Larry Merl Morrison is survived by his children, Raymond Morrison and wife Corey, of Sullivan, MO, Michelle Morrison, of Yukon, OK, Rebecca Wood and husband Jason, of Salem, MO, and Michael Morrison of Oklahoma City, OK; brothers, Kenneth Morrison, of Powder Springs, GA, and Joe Morrison and wife Gwen of Webster, TX; grandchildren, Dameon Morrison, Seth Morrison, Alex Wood, Cody Lewis, Eric Wood, A.J. Morrison, Jacey Wood and great grandson Slater Morrison. In addition to his parents, Merl & Frieda Morrison, Larry was preceded in death by his grandson Devin Morrison and son-in-law Robb Crisp. Funeral Services for Larry Merl Morrison will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday August 6, 2022, at the Salem Chapel of the James & Gahr Mortuary with Billy Miller officiating. Interment will be at the Morrison Cemetery. A visitation for family and friends will be held at the Chapel on Friday, August 5, 2022, from 5-7 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested and greatly appreciated to the Morrison Cemetery, cards are available at all James & Gahr locations.
