Lucy Ellen Robison

Lucy Ellen Robison of St. James, Missouri passed away Friday, December 3, 2021, at the Rolla Presbyterian Manor, at the age of 89. Lucy was born in Maries County on January 23, 1932, to the late Everett and Eunice (Vandiver) Phenix. Miss Lucy Phenix was united in marriage to Paul Robison on December 21, 1951. This union was blessed with a beloved daughter, Paula Ellen. Lucy spent 31 years at the U.S.G.S. as a map engraver before retiring in 1992. She exhibited a wholesale commitment to all life’s endeavors, from her career to her hobbies. An avid golfer, few things brought Lucy as much joy as showing off her short game. She was a talented artist, crafting needlework, Christmas ornaments, quilts, and dresses that will long be considered cherished keepsakes. Many Christmas trees will be adorned this year with lace snowflakes, painstaking crafted by Lucy over the years. Most importantly, Lucy was dedicated to her family. Her love and devotion to her siblings, daughter, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren will be remembered fondly by everyone who knew her. Lucy Ellen Robison is survived by her grandchildren, Ben Verkamp and wife Tory, of St. James, MO, and Amy Verkamp McArthy and husband Matt, of Valley Park, MO; great-grandchildren, Olivia and Elizabeth McArthy, of Valley Park, MO; son-in-law, Randy Verkamp, of St. James, MO; sister, Helen Moreland and husband Jim, of Vienna, MO; sister-in-law, Liz Phenix, of Steelville, MO; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. In addition to her parents, Everett and Eunice Phenix, Lucy was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Robison; daughter, Paula Verkamp; brothers, Borden Phenix, J.C (John) Phenix, and Robert Phenix; sister, Mildred Burnett; step-mother, Opal Phenix; step-sister, Sharon Watson. A funeral service will be held at 2:30 PM Saturday, December 11, 2021 at the St. James Chapel of the James & Gahr Mortuary with Pastor Craig Rippy officiating. Lucy will be laid to rest beside her husband Paul at the St. James Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held at the Chapel prior to the service beginning at 1:00PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts are suggested in support of the St. James Library, where Lucy spent afternoons reading to community children for many years.
