Orpha MarieBay passed away Monday July 16, 2018 at SalemMemorialDistrictHospital in Salem, Missouri with her family around her. She was born at home in Cherryville, Missouri on March 5, 1928 to her parents Alton William "Bill" Caringer and Ina Lucille Brown Caringer. She was raised in Cherryville with her sisters, Billie and Ina Mae, and brother, Bud and Andy. She graduated from high school in Steelville, Missouri. After high school, she attended college at University of Missouri Columbia and later transferred to Southwest Missouri State College in Springfield, Missouri majoring in Elementary Education. She taught second grade in Salem, Missouri until 1956. On July 18, 1953 she was married to Carlton "Gene"Bay. To this marriage two daughters were born: Jeanne Bay Dillon and Janet Bay Cunningham. In 1956, Marie and Gene began their career in the florist business. She loved working with flowers and enjoyed that career until 1973 at which time they sold Hillcrest Flower Shop. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Salem and Eastern Star. She is survived by two daughters, Jeanne Dillon and husband Tom, Salem: Jan Cunningham and husband Charlie, Salem; two grandsons, Matt Dillon, Salem; Tyler Dillon and wife Judy, Miami, Oklahoma; three great- grandchildren Grace, Faith, and Gus Dillon, Miami, Oklahoma; sister Ina Mae Groves, Vichy, Missouri and brother, Bud Caringer, Cherryville, Missouri; along with a host of nieces; nephews; and extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Ina Caringer, husband, Gene Bay, Father and Mother In law, JL and Ethel Bay, sister, Billie Manion, brother, Andy Caringer, five sisters in law, Audrey Akers, Wilma Bay, Charolene Bay, Louise Bay, Thelma Bay, six brothers in law, Wayne Akers, George Bay, Jim Bay, Jerome Bay, Gerald Groves, Sterling Manion. Marie enjoyed gardening, cooking, riding horses with her family and friends, and all types of needlework, crocheting, knitting, and quilting. Her greatest pleasure and most enjoyable moments were when she was with her family, especially her grandsons Matt and Tyler and great grandchildren Grace, Faith, and Gus. Marie fondly loved her family and friends and will be deeply missed by them. Funeral Services for Marie Bay will be held Friday July 20, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the Salem Chapel Of James & Gahr Mortuary with Bro. Michael York and Bro. Phil Newcom officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30 AM until service time of 11:00 AM. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery in Salem. Memorial are suggested to First Baptist Church Salem.
