Martha Louise Stumpf passed from this life on Sunday, January 23, 2022 at the St. James Living Center in St. James, Missouri at the age of 96. Martha was born November 11, 1925 in Benton County, Arkansas to the late Pierce Howard and Lucy Mae (Voltz) Mayfield. Martha was a class of 1943 graduated from Pea Ridge High School in Arkansas. She graduated with honors to which she was awarded a scholarship to Draughon's Business College in Springfield, Missouri. After graduation from Draughon's, Martha went to work for KWTO radio station in Springfield, Missouri. It was there Martha met the love of her life, Clifford Stumpf, who was a professional entertainer at the station. Clifford and Martha married on January 25, 1947; this union was blessed with two daughters, Carol Jo and Catherine Ann. They moved to St. James to make their home and raise their family. Martha went to work for California Manufacturing where she was an executive administrative assistant until her retirement in 1988. A Christian from her youth, Martha was a member of the First Baptist Church in St. James, Missouri. She not only attended regularly, but served as the church pianist for First Baptist for over 25 years. Martha is survived by her daughter, Catherine Ann and son-in-law, Ted Rooney, of Albuquerque, NM; three grandchildren, Alexa, Samantha, and Francesca Rooney, and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and beloved friends. In addition to her parents, Pierce and Lucy Mayfield, Martha was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Clifford Stumpf in 2002; daughter, Carol Jo Stumpf; sister, Betty Broadhurst Powell; and brother James Mayfield. Graveside services for Martha Stumpf will be held on Friday, January 28, 2022 at 3:00 PM at the High Gate Baptist Cemetery in High Gate, Missouri with Pastor Stephen Brubaker officiating. Memorials are suggested, and greatly appreciated to The First Baptist Church of St. James. Cards are available at all James & Gahr locations.
