Nettie Bernice Walters

September 22, 1935 - May 19, 2022

Nettie Bernice Walters, of Rolla, Missouri, passed away on May 19th, 2022 at the age of 86. Nettie was born at home in Jefferson County, Mississippi on September 22, 1935, to Rayford Tanner and Edith (Rogillio) Tanner. On November 26,1956, she was wed to Charles Theodore Walters, Jr., her husband of 64 years. Together they had two sons, Charles D. Walters and Richard Walters. After they moved to Rolla in 1968, Nettie worked for Rolla Cable, later working at United Telephone as a telephone operator, in the drafting department, working her way up to Assistant Chief Operator. After working at United Telephone, she was owner/operator of Merle Norman Cosmetic Studio in Rolla, retiring in 1988. Nettie was a Government volunteer, working along side her husband, Charles, while he was working in Field Surveys with the USGS. Nettie loved working in the yard with her husband, Charles, her passion being beautiful flower beds. She also enjoyed doing cross stitch, and did beautiful thread crochet, creating many doilies and table cloths. She and Charles also enjoyed traveling in their RV. She will be deeply missed by her surviving family which includes her sons Charles of Springfield, MO, and Richard and his wife Paula of Rolla, MO; three grandsons, Charles Walters,Jr. and his wife Kate of Walnut Grove, MO, Anthony Walters of Jefferson City, MO, and Preston Walters and his wife Brandy, of Rolla, MO; eight great-grandchildren, Caidon, Cassidy, Calvin, Josie, Lincoln, Owen, Keagen, and Kaytlynn; other extended family members and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Charles in 2021, her sister Patricia Thomas in 2016, her brother Rayford Tanner in 2017. A private graveside service will be held at a later date, with burial in Visitation Cemetery in Vienna, MO.
