Robert Lee Melton of Salem, Missouri was born on August 25, 1949 in St. Louis, Missouri to Lee Dale and Ruth Jane (Taylor) Melton. He passed from this life on November 14, 2021 at the age of 72 years. Bob proudly served his country in the United States Marines for two years during the Vietnam war and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles for over 40 years. Bob worked for the city of Salem and was known for helping others. Bob’s joy in life was his children and grandchildren. He devoted his life to caring for his son, Eric. Bob liked to joke and scare people with his infamous, “Bam Shakalaka.” He enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, camping, babies, and trying his luck at playing the lottery, but the most favorite thing about his life was his family and being a best friend to his siblings. Anyone who had the privilege to know Bob will dearly miss him. Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Ruth (Taylor) Melton; wife Rita Melton; son Christopher Melton; siblings Bill Melton, Fred Melton, Nancy Hines. Those left to carry on the memory of Bob are his children Bobbie Gotchal (Steve) of Salem, Missouri, Rhonda Mitchell (R.J.) of St. Louis, Missouri, and Eric Melton of Salem, Missouri; siblings Barry Melton of St. Charles, Missouri, Frank Melton (Sharon) of Salem, Missouri, David Melton (Sheri) of St. Louis, Missouri, Ruth Krueger(Phil) of Salem, Missouri; special friend Una Youtsey; grandchildren Mantha Fry (George), Miranda White (Travis), Dalton Mendenhall, Hayden Gotchal, Jodi Gotchal, Roger Mitchell, Ash Mitchell; great grandchildren Adam Fry, Kimber Fry, Ollie White, Luna White. Graveside Service for Bob will be held at the Smith Cemetery in Flat Missouri with military honors on November 28, 2021 at 1:00 PM. A Celebration of Life will follow at the Eagles Club in Salem, Missouri.
